Facilities Master Plan

Antioch Unified School District has completed a Facilities Master Plan that identifies $1.3 billion in current and anticipated school improvement needs.

The District contracted with WLC Architects (WLC) in 2017 to generate a district-wide comprehensive Master plan.  With representatives from the District, WLC has done the following: developed, distributed, and collected facility surveys, reviewed existing facility reports and conducted site observations.

Overall, the facilities assessment provided the foundational information to understand the context of the District’s buildings and campuses.  In order to correctly arrive at a Facilities Master Plan (FMP), WLC assisted the District to create the criteria and analysis procedure and prioritized the desired improvements.

The intention of the FMP is to further analyze the facilities assessment to consider big picture issues, and to respond to current repair needs or immediate space needs such as: improvements that adopt more efficient construction technology, energy conservation and sustainable designs, new or modernization projects with multi-purpose flexibility, and identification of joint venture projects that enhance current educational needs or support future educational goals.

The recommendations were then incorporated into a cost model developed by WLC.  The cost model is more of a road map to show the magnitude of each project so informed decisions about schedules and future facility costs can be made.

In all, the Facilities Master Plan in its entirety was created through a joint effort with site staff, the Facilities Master Planning Committee, and Leadership Committee.  Everyone who participated had a profound impact on the making of this plan and the future of the District and schools.
