About Me

Welcome to Mrs. Cuza's Website. I am Elizabeth S Cuza but you can reference me as Lisa, for short.  I am the Head of the Physical Education Department and a Physical Education teacher at Antioch High School.  My objective is to provide maximum physical activity time within the class period, teach skills and activities that transfer into physical activity outside of physical education class, motivate students to be physically active, and take the role of physical activity director for the school.  I am a former NCAA All-American Track and Field runner for the University of California Berkeley, I am a former sponsored road runner by Adidas, and a former USA Track and Field traveling squad member. Also, I am in the City of San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame as a three-star athlete (Softball, Track & Field, and Cross County). You can see my name on the wall on the San Francisco Giants Hall of Fame wall, San Francisco's Balboa High School Hall of Fame and the City College of San Francisco Hall of Fame wall as well. I attended City College of San Francisco where I attained my Associate in Science, then transferred to UC Berkeley where I attained my Bachelors in Kinesiology, then continued to San Francisco State University and attained my Teaching Credential. I have been a USATF Level 1 Coach, an accreditation certificate intended for coaching education providers who are interested in having their education organization accredited by ICF Coaching Education. Level 1 accreditation is for at least 60 and up to 124 contact learning hours and is designated as ACC Accredited Education. Also, I am CPR, First Aide, and AED Certified.

I am well known for being a kind, friendly, nonsensical teacher, and I am tough but fair. Dressing in approved P.E. Clothes and participating daily is 90% of a student's grade. I believe that physical education is extremely important for your overall health, mental health, and self-confidence. Physical education provides cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. Daily Physical education, can provide students with the ability and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime by giving them
daily focus in school, improves school attendance, better academic performance, builds a strong healthy body, improves sleep-quality, reduces risk of anxiety and depression, develops better social and problem-solving skills, and builds self-confidence.

I want only the best for the students. I will help you with any needs you may have and accommodate you accordingly. Education workers require a variety of skills that can include management and organizational skills, leadership, curriculum planning and development, lesson implementation, interpersonal skills and relationship-building strategies within the community. I promise to use all those skills to address each and every one of you to ensure you meet your goals and can pass the state Physical Fitness Exam. Establishing goals within physical education can also help students learn the value of setting their own personal and achievable goals in relation to their favorite activities. I love teaching students about goal setting by recording each student's best sprint time and showing them how they improve through the year, and/or encouraging students with a particular interest to take their skills to the next level. From developing motor skills for younger students to creating an environment where students can cultivate a positive attitude towards physical fitness, well-designed physical education goals will not only boost students' education, but prepare them for an active, healthy, and productive lifestyle.
