Greetings Carmen Dragon Families,
It is a pleasure and an honor to join the Carmen Dragon Team. I have been a credentialed educator for over 25 years. I received my undergraduate degree at Cal State East Bay, my counseling credential at Chapman University, and my master's and administrative credential at UC Berkeley.
My role is to help students develop social-emotional skills, achieve academic success, and understand career opportunities. Developmentally, elementary students build greater academic success when they learn to set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and understand and manage emotions.
This year, Carmen Dragon Elementary adopted the Second Step Program, which is a holistic approach to building supportive communities for every child through social-emotional learning. As we return from challenges created by the pandemic, we understand the need to connect with our students, families and each other. Connecting with each other helps build strong and welcoming communities where everyone thrives. Check out the Second Step sub tab to learn more about our program, what your child will be learning and how you can support our efforts.
On September 2nd, Carmen Dragon Elementary became the first elementary school in the Antioch Unified School District to open a Wellness Room. Through the commitment and support of our principal, the Wellness Room has become a safe and confidential place where students can self-regulate, seek counseling support, or just take a break from their academic and social demands.
I look forward to supporting all students, teachers, and families.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Valdez
