What Does Prospects’ Independent Study (IS) Look Like?

All students must meet with their IS teacher one time weekly with a supervising teacher minimally, for 1 hour on a specific day and time.

All students must spend between 20 and 30 hours a week completing their homework at home.

Students are expected to earn a minimum of 15 credits per quarter, depending on the specific need of the student. Students may be given additional opportunities to earn credits through LMC, Edgenuity, Summer School and special projects.

Most students need to attend at additional times for…

  • Algebra, Geometry, or other Math Class (in-person)

  • Art, College and Careers, or Spanish Classes (in-person)

  • Tutoring or Student Support if assigned by teacher, counselor or administration

  • State Mandated Testing (CAASPP 11th graders or ELPAC Testing in the Spring)

  • Online Courses using Edgenuity Software

Some students may choose to attend other optional opportunities such as…

  • Articulated College and Career Class (In-Person)

  • Dual Enrollment Spanish Class (In-Person at Prospects for Spring 2022)

  • Breathe, Stretch, Meditate (30 Mins with the counselor using an online exercise program)

  • LMC classes, Concurrent Enrollment- to earn 3.3 credits of electives on your high school transcript for every 1 unit at LMC (i.e., 3 unit LMC course = 10 elective credits at PHS)
