Mrs. Calderon's
4th Grade
2023-2024 School Year
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and New Fourth Grade Students,
Welcome to a new year!! This year should be a fun learning experience for all of us. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you, partner with you and finding out what strengths you will bring to our wonderful classroom.
Our main focus this year will be in reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies.
In reading, your child will be exposed to various core books across all subjects. These texts will increase reading abilities and build on comprehension skills.
Math holds a lot of fun activities this year! Your child’s experiences throughout the year will be much smoother if they have their multiplication fact families and division fact families memorized. These skills are used daily. Knowing these skills also helps your child to be able to work throughout the multiple step math problems presented to them. It also helps students prepare for more advanced math problem solving. Please set aside time each day to create and practice flash cards with your child.
Writing is an extension of your child’s past learning experiences along with specialized focus in specific genres of writing. Students will be focusing on response to literature (nonfiction and fiction), opinion writing as well as informative. Students will also be expected to display proper sentence structure, paragraphing, spelling, punctuation, word choice and voice. We will be working on various writing prompts to practice all of these skills.
I am looking forward to working with you to in educating your child. I want you to know that I consider you my partner. Communication is key to our success. I am looking forward to feedback and also want to learn from your expertise exactly how to work with your child. Together we will make a great team this year.
I look forward to our year together!
