Dear John Muir Families,

Welcome Back!

On behalf of the John Muir Elementary School Staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2023/24 school year. John Muir’s staff has been busy, preparing for student to return and are excited for the new school year. We know there are always a lot of question as we begin the school year regarding procedures. We hope this letter will answer some of those question for you.    

The following is information is regarding upcoming events related to the start of school:

  • Class lists, with teacher assignments will be posted on our glass marquees near our front office on Friday, August 4th by 4:00 pm.
  • When bringing your student to school, both Greystone Drive’s and Rockford Drive’s pick and drop off loops are not for parking. If you are choosing to walk your student to either gate, you must park on the main streets. Parked cars in pickup/drop off loops are against fire code and maybe subject to towing.
  • TK & Kinder families you will attend an Online Orientation Meeting with your student’s teacher on August 7that 9AM. You should have received a letter from your child’s teacher. If you have not, please contact our school office. After the TK/ Kinder Orientation, families will be assigned a time by their child’s teacher to bring their student to campus to officially meet the teacher and see the classroom.  If you are unsure of the tour time, please check your email. As a reminder only students will be allowed to enter the campus. 
  • 1st Grade student on the first day school you will enter the campus through the kindergarten playground off Rockford Drive. From there, our 1st grade team of teacher will be there to greet the students. When school begins, teachers will walk students to their classroom. Please note: This procedure is only for the first day of school. After the first day of school, 1st grade students will enter the campus through the main entrance on Greystone Drive. As a reminder only students will be allowed to enter the campus. 1st grade students will always exit campus through the Kindergarten playground.
  • 2nd - 5th Grade students will enter the campus through the main gates off Greystone Drive. As a reminder only students will be allowed to enter the campus.
  • On the first day of school students will line up near their classroom door. Muir staff will be out to help students find their way.
  • On the first day of school, all students will receive a registration packet and emergency cards. Please return to school by August 14th

Parent/guardians and non-AUSD staff are not allowed on AUSD school campuses, this will include the first day of school.
